Olivia & Alex - An Elegant & Intimate Manchester Art Gallery Wedding - Manchester Wedding Photographer

You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!

It feels like we’ve been wintering for years now rather than just a few months. But over the past week or so, signs of spring are FINALLY beginning to take shape and make themselves known: the buttery yellow heads of my crocuses are blooming open, the green shoots of my hyacinths not far behind. And what could be a more certain sign of spring than the return to work and the first wedding of the year, fittingly taking place in the ICONIC Manchester Art Gallery, itself a haven for blooming creativity and curiosity.

The wonderful Olivia & Alex got in touch just before Christmas and were quite clear and decisive regarding their wedding photography needs: a focus on the real, candid moments rather than spending ages away from their carefully chosen guests and some natural photos of their big, beautiful blended family. The happy couple opted to book just 2 hours of coverage with me at the gallery before they and their guests made their way to Hotel Gotham for an evening of feasting and merriment. It was just enough time to tell the story of their wedding ceremony with its beautiful reading by their teenage daughters, the easy camaraderie of their loved ones during a very relaxed cocktail hour and for us to sneak off for some portraits amongst the art. The details were meticulously designed to simply enhance the already breathtaking space: simple spring flowers by Frog & the lovely spring quartet welcomed the guests and provided even more magical ambience to the reception.

Teeny-tiny weddings like Oliva & Alex’s are such a bonus to shoot alongside the big beautiful chaos of full-day weddings, and I always feel so honoured to have been chosen to document them. Manchester Art Gallery weddings in particular, hold a very dear space in my heart and I loved dipping back into storytelling with this beautifully intimate wedding. I cannot thank the happy couple enough for entrusting me with their day and to John, Ed & the exceptional team at Manchester Art Gallery for always taking great care of me.

Here’s a very small sneak peek at what we got up to…
