When we get down to heart of the matter - the heart of the world really - it always begins with two people finding each other, against all odds. And building a life together is one of the most painstaking and stop and start and exhausting and exhilarating and the promise of sharing, of connection is what powers the GOOD and WONDROUS of this life.

We’re a bit wedding-mad these days with days spent shooting, editing or planning for them so yesterday my daughter asked if people NEEDED to get married. And of course I said no, many people choose not to and that’s perfectly fine too because that’s their choice. But then she wondered if they would get lonely. And I said it was a very special thing to share your life with someone, anyone. And she nodded and, quite definitively said, well you can always have pets. And I was stunned by her (very simplistic) 6-year-old logic - we ALL need SOMETHING/anything to LOVE. And it floored me. Because this past year has, sometimes excruciatingly, been a reminder that humans are social creatures that CRAVE connection. And it humbles me so much that I am chosen to capture and archive the memory of what can be the pinnacle of this connection: celebration, friendship, family, LOVE.

Abi & Dave met in the most modern way - via the online dating platform Hinge. There was an instant connection, they chose each other immediately and the rest, as they say, is history. Planning a wedding in the before-times was stressful enough but planning a wedding in a pandemic is something else entirely. Mercifully, Abi & Dave decided to ditch the fuss and keep things simple with a micro-wedding for 10 of their nearest and dearest (and Abi’s brother watching from Facetime in Florida!) at the STUNNING Merewood Country House Hotel in the heart the the Lake District. I raced up the M6 (literally at times) to gorgeous sunshine last Tuesday arriving in the nick of time for a beautifully emotional ceremony and then some very relaxed portraits in the sunshine.

I’ve felt so honoured to be entrusted with these micro-weddings & elopments that have been peppering my diary throughout the year as larger weddings have slowly but surely re-emerged. There is variety and intimacy and, as always and above all, there is SO. MUCH. JOY.

Abi & Dave’s day was so special in so many ways but mostly because I got to hang out and connect with these wonderful humans. Here’s a sneak peek of what we got up to…
