Lauren & Nick - A Stunning, Relaxed, Lake District Elopement - Lake District Wedding Photography
My job is one of contrasts and extremes…one Saturday in June I shot the largest and longest wedding of my career to date, a wedding that challenged me in so many new ways and pushed me to what I thought was the limit of my own creativity. But then yjust two days later, I drove my favourite stretch of motorway up the M6 to Cumbria, arriving via twisty narrow lanes to the idyllic Lowthwaite Bed & Breakfast to help the WONDERFUL Lauren into her gown before she married the love of her life, Nick. Only myself, the registrars and the owners of Glenridding House Hotel were present as this beautiful pair of 10 years eloped at the edge of the lake. And I was brought right back 9 years to Cley-next-the-Sea and the day I married my own love in a setting that mirrored this one.
I was so honoured to have been chosen to capture these truly priceless memories for the new Mr. & Mrs. Massey. Following their lakeside ceremony at Glenridding House (and a quick FaceTime call to mum to share the big news!), the three of us hopped back into my car and drove back up the winding roads, this time parking at the base of a Fell - a quick shoe change to trainers for our beautiful bride and we were off - hiking up to the sweetest row of cottages where Nick spent October holidays as a child and opening out into the MOST breathtaking views I’ve seen outside of Vermont.
After dropping our beautiful bride and groom back at their B&B, I drove home reflecting on how extraordinarily privileged I am to do the job I get to do - to witness joy and love and so so much beauty - to preserve it and bask in it. Lauren & Nick’s Lake District elopement taught me, more than anything, that there’s just no ‘right way’ to get married anymore - whether it’s a traditional ritual-filled ceremony played out in front of your ever-growing family or an intimate lakeside joining of hands…what remains is a marriage, an adventure with the person who knows and loves you the most in this world. Stay honest in your approach to your wedding day, do what feels like YOU and try to tune out the extra pressures and opinions and ‘helpful advice’. If it looks like the two of you and your glorious life together then it will TRULY be the best day day of your lives. And I hope you’ll have me along to capture it for you!
I LOVE shooting Lake District weddings and working as an elopement photographer so if you’re planning an epic Lake District wedding, please give me a shout. I’d LOVE to photograph your amazing, unique wedding day.
Thank you so so much to Lauren & Nick for entrusting me with their memories, what a perfect afternoon we had. Here’s a bit of what we got up to…
